“A little bit explosive.”

Block 170,000 gave miners 84.7 hours of notice, and the reward cut has landed
The upgrade at block 170,000 came with the longest notice yet. The reward cut followed on Oct 24 at 06:18 UTC. ZK mining spread across more provers, and Pearl's market cap grew to 14.3 times Nockchain's.

Block 170,000 gave miners 84.7 hours of notice, the most of any Nockchain upgrade
The developers merged Security batch 3 on Oct 19. It activated on Oct 23 at 04:00 UTC, with 7.6 hours more notice than Logos had. Both mining lanes got a new starting point, and the first 501 blocks after it averaged 189.0 seconds.
MiningData
Block 170,501 landed at 06:18 UTC on October 24, and the block reward is now 1,536 NOCK
The cut arrived 8.3 hours later than the estimate Nocktane printed on October 10. Each block now pays the miner 1,228.8 NOCK of new issuance and the protocol fund 307.2, down from 1,638.4 and 409.6.

What changed on Nockchain since July, and what comes next
A second mining lane went live. The company that built the chain is winding down, and a community corporation now holds the brand. Five forks activated, most on hours of notice, and two thirds of mined NOCK sits in the bridge while withdrawals stay off. One read, with the numbers.
MiningData
Nockchain has shipped five forks since July 25. Notice ran from 2.7 to 77.1 hours.
On July 25, Nockchain promised real notice for every consensus upgrade. Since then the team has shipped two emergency fixes (block 112,500 and Zoe) and three planned upgrades (Logos, Anthropos and the 154,500 reset). Logos was the only one announced more than a day ahead, with 77.1 hours of notice.
GovernanceReport
Zorp is winding down, and Nock Community Co. now holds Nockchain's brand and code
Zorp, the company that built Nockchain, passed Nockchain's trademark, domains and GitHub repositories to Nock Community Co. in June. Eighty days after NCC promised a fifth director and a public governance framework, Nocktane found neither.
ProtocolAnalysis
Nockchain's AI lane went live in August and capacity followed. The team says demand is now the constraint.
Logos took a longer road than first planned. It was roadmapped for June, moved three times and blocked by its maintainers pending a reviewed fork-choice fix, then went live on Aug 14. Mining capacity followed. The protocol meant to bring compute demand into the lane is listed for Q4 2026, and the Lockstep paper published in September sets out reproducible inference.
BridgeData
Two thirds of all mined NOCK now sits in the bridge to Base
As of Oct 10, the bridge lock held 1.583B of the 2.350B NOCK mined so far, or 67.4%. Withdrawal processing back to Nockchain stays disabled, and the roadmap lists withdrawals for Q1 2027, four quarters after the Q1 2026 it gave in January.

What the 25% reward cut at block 170,501 means for miners
Around Oct 23, at the 24-hour average block time on Oct 10, the block reward drops from 2,048 to 1,536 NOCK. Miners will receive 1,228.8 NOCK of new issuance a block, down from 1,638.4.
SectorAnalysis
Pearl's market cap is 7.3 times Nockchain's, and the two chains share miners
At 12:05 UTC on Oct 10, CoinGecko's five-minute data valued Pearl at $464.5M and Nockchain at $63.6M, a ratio of 7.3x. The ratio was about 2.1x on Jul 21 and 1.1x on Sep 13. The two chains share mining hardware through merge mining, and a third chain, FLOP, targets a Q1 2027 launch.

Nockchain in October 2026: a field guide for miners, holders and builders
Nockchain now has two ways to mine, a community corporation in place of the company that built it, a bridge to Base with withdrawals switched off, and a roadmap whose dates moved later. Here is the chain today, and where you can check each piece yourself.
